The role of the market maker
Market makers play a key role in the financial market by improving liquidity in specific shares and ensuring market efficiency.
To achieve this, they continuously place simultaneous buy and sell orders (quotes) for a specific share. They are obliged to place orders regardless of the market trend.
Market making on the Athens Stock Exchange
Market making is a regulated activity. As market makers, we:
- Adhere to the ATHEX market-making rules, including maximum price range (spread), minimum daily quality, minimum re-entry time etc.
- Apply the ATHEX Regulation.
